Minister Shrestha scheduled to meet with his Chinese counterpart Wang in Beijing

Foreign Minister of Nepal Narayan Kaji Shrestha is scheduled to embark on a China visit on March 24 at the invitation of his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi.

According to the schedule, Foreign Minister Shrestha will hold a meeting with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang in Beijing, the capital city of China.

“Nepal's Foreign Minister Shrestha is scheduled to meet with his Chinese counterpart, Wang Yi, in Beijing. The agenda may also include higher-level meetings,” a source at the Foreign Ministry said.

Even though Foreign Minister Shrestha’s China visit is confirmed, he will not participate in the Boao Forum for Asia to be held in Hainan, the southernmost province of China, Shrestha’s secretariat member said.

The Boao Forum is set to be held in Hainan Province starting March 26.

Despite a tradition of either the President or Prime Minister of Nepal attending the Forum, a decision on Nepal's representative for this year's event remains undecided.

“Foreign Minister Shrestha is scheduled to visit Beijing, Sichuan, Chongqing and Tibet,” the secretariat member said, “But he is not scheduled to attend the Boao Forum.”

CPN (Maoist Center)’s Senior Vice Chairman Shrestha will meet with the secretaries of the Communist Party of China in Sichuan, Chongqing and Tibet.

During a week-long China visit, Minister Shrestha will also visit Kailash Manasarovar. Earlier, Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ had also visited Kailash Manasarovar during his recent China visit.

This is going to be his first China visit after Shrestha took charge as the Foreign Minister following the formation of the new ruling coalition.
