The Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) has banned three types of helicopter flights until coming September to ensure the safety of helicopter flights.

The authority has introduced new rules after the Manang Air helicopter crashed last Tuesday, killing six people including foreign tourists who had gone to Solukhumbu for a mountain flight.

According to the new rules, mountain, ceiling and non-essential flights have been banned for the next two and a half months to ensure the safety of helicopter flights.

Besides, four more decisions have been taken by the authority to make the flight safe, which are as follows:

• Formation of a team to control and supervise helicopters, short flights and landings on a daily basis.
• Permission to operate helicopters including ADT focused rescue flights in monsoon till September after a weekly review.
• At least one of the places of departure or landing must be an airport when flight operations are allowed.
• Abolition of all commercial flight privileges to crew members who have shares in the company.
